Bhubaneswar: With the cyclone circulation over the north-west Bay of Bengal concentrating into a low pressure, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning for 11 districts of the south and north coastal districts of Odisha.
“Heavy rainfall is likely to lash 11 districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur from today. The intensity of rainfall will increase further in the next 24 hours from Monday in the 15 districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Angul, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack,” Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas told the media on Sunday.
Though the intensity of rainfall would reduce after August 20, there will heavy rainfall at one or two isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts on August 21, he said.
He further said that the Met office has also sounded thunderstorm and lightning alert for the 10 districts of Koraput, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur asked the people to stay indoors till 6.30 pm on Sunday.
Apart from this, the fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea in the north-west and the west-central Bay of Bengal as the sea condition would be very rough during the period, he added.
