IMD Issues Orange Warning For 9 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for nine districts of Odisha.

“The low-pressure area has formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts while the associated cyclonic circulation lies above the mean sea level with a tilt towards the south-west direction. Under its influence, there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places across the state in the next 12 hours till August 9,” the IMD said in a mid-day bulletin.

In view of the heavy rainfall in the state, IMD has issued orange and yellow warning for the following districts.

September 5
(Orange warning)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall over the districts of Koraput, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Boudh and Kalahandi.

(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall in Gajapati, Malkangiri, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Balangir districts.

September 6
(Orange warning)

Kalahandi, Balangir, Naupada and Bargarh.

(Yellow warning)
Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul and Deogarh.

September 7
(Yellow warning)

Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.

September 9
(Yellow warning)

Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Cuttack, Dhenkenal, Puri and Keonjhar.

Though there is no heavy rainfall warning for August 8, some places in interior and coastal Odisha will experience moderate rain or thundershower.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours as the squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph will make the sea conditions rough to very rough.
