Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 12 districts of Odisha, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 3.10 pm on Tuesday.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning is likely in some parts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Koenjhar, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur in next 3 hours. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

With the low pressure over westcentral & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts becoming well marked over the same region with chances of intensifying into a depression in next 24 hour, the MeT office has  issued orange and yellow warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts for two days.

The south Odisha pockets would see heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday. The intensity and area-wise rainfall would decrease in the state by July 27, according to IMD’s regional centre here.

According to a bulletin of SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) in Bhubaneswar, widespread rainfall is expected across south Odisha districts on Tuesday and Wednesday with heavy precipitation at a few places. The districts, which are likely to receive the rains, include Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput,  Nabarangpur, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.

“The system could intensify into a depression on July 26 and north Odisha districts would experience rainfall from July 28.”
