Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a red warning for eight districts of Odisha.
The national weather agency, in its mid-day bulletin, said that a low-pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood on Sunday has turned into a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Bengal and Odisha coast on Monday. It is most likely to concentrate into a depression in the next 24 hours. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall will occur at a few places across the state for the next three days, up to July 3.
IMD has issued red warning (extremely heavy rainfall) for the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapada, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh and Bargarh, orange warning (very heavy rainfall) for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal and yellow warning (heavy rainfall) for Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh on July 1 and 2.
Besides, yellow warning has been issued for the districts of Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on July 2 and 3, the bulletin said.
Fishermen are advised not to venture along and off the Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours, as squally weather with gusty wind speed reaching 40 to 50kmph is likely to prevail over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining west central Bay making the sea condition very rough.
