Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning for thunderstorm in some parts of the north, coastal and interior Odisha for two days from Wednesday.
In a special afternoon bulletin, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said that trough line formed on Monday from east Bihar to north Odisha now runs from east Bihar to Gangetic West Bengal at 1.5.km above mean sea level and another trough at 0.9 km km above mean sea level runs from interior Odisha to north interior Karnataka across south Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Apart from this, moisture incursion takes place at lower levels over the region.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at a few places in north Odisha and at one or two places in south Odisha districts in the next 24 hours. Besides, thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning likely to occur at one or two places in north Odisha and Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri of south Odisha with hail storm likely to occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal and Cuttack districts during the period.
Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at a few places over the districts of north Odisha and at one or two places over south Odisha districts in the subsequent 24 hours on Thursday. Besides, thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal and Cuttack, the bulletin said.
There is a possibility of light rain or thundershower at one or two places in coastal Odisha districts, it added.
In view of the inclement weather, IMD has advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea in coastal Odisha and north-west Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours as the strong surface wind speed reaching 25-35kmph gusting to 45 kmph is likely to blow along and off the Odisha coast and north-west Bay of Bengal and make the sea condition very rough.
