Bhubaneswar: Cold wave condition is likely to prevail over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur till Wednesday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for the districts.
After the IMD warning, the office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) issued an advisory to the collectors and municipal commissioners of districts concerned asking them to taken necessary precautionary measures in the wake of cold wave warning.
The SRC has advised people of districts under yellow warning to stay indoors during night to avoid exposure to cold. The SRC also suggested a watch on the movement of vehicles during night, especially two-wheelers, to avoid accidents.
Collectors have been advised to ensure that school buildings, community buildings and other available buildings are opened for use as shelter during the night by homeless and needy people. And to send a report, indicating the number of such buildings used as night shelters and the number of people sheltered there, to the office of the SRC on a daily basis till the cold wave situation is over.
The SRC has further advised to carry out necessary public awareness campaigns on do’s and don’ts to protect the people and livestock from the cold wave. All the above arrangements are to be made both in rural and urban areas.
