IMD Predicts Low Pressure-Induced Very Heavy Rain In Odisha; Check Forecast

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in Odisha from September 29 and an increase in the intensity of downpour thereafter under the influence of a cyclonic circulation and its further intensification into a low pressure area over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal by September 30.

“A cyclonic circulation is likely to emerge over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea off Myanmar coast around September 29. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal off Myanmar coast during subsequent 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards with possibility of gradual intensification,” according to the midday bulletin.

The weather agency has issued yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts till 8.30 am on Thursday. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and at one or two places in remaining districts of the state.

The yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning continues during the subsequent 24 hours (September 28) for one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain or thundershower  at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore and at one or two places in remaining districts.

On September 29, yellow warning of heavy rain as well as thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for several districts of Odisha. Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur with thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Khurda.

On September 30, heavy rain warning has been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Sonepur and Kalahandi. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

The intensity of rain is likely to increase further thereafter.

On October 1, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at one or two places in Balangir, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal, the MeT office said, adding that there will be little change thereafter.
