Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued thunderstorm warning for 14 districts of Odisha.
In a release, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said rain and thundershower are likely at Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal and Angul districts.
The people of these districts have been advised to stay indoors till 10.15 am.
Talking to the media on Tuesday, Director, Meteorological Centre, HR Biswas said the well-marked low pressure over the north and interior Odisha has moved towards north Chhattisgarh and some parts of North Balasore.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall would lash some parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Cuttack districts in the next 24 hours. The amount of rainfall would decrease in the next two days on July 19 and 20.
He further said there is a possibility of formation of a low pressure over the North Bay of Bengal on July 21.
“Though the impact of the low pressure on Odisha cannot be said right now, there is an indication of widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in the state,” he added.
