Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rain in 22 districts of Odisha.
IMD said the low pressure area lay over coastal Odisha and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation is likely to move towards west-north-west direction during the next 48 hours.
Under its influence, there will be heavy rain with very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Odiaha’s south coastal and adjoining districts for two days till August 18.
Besides, there will be light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places over the interior districts and at a few places over the coastal districts till August 22.
In view of the heavy rainfall, yellow warnings have been issued for the following districts.
August 17
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj and Kendrapada.
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Boudh, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Balasore, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Angul and Kalahandi.
August 18
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sonepur, Angul, Nuapada and Balangir.
Due to the inclement weather, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast and adjoining areas of north-west Bay of Bengal on August 17 and 18 as the surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph over this region will make the condition of the sea rough to very rough.
