Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: With the Vijaya Dashami of Goddess Durga coming to an end on Friday, the process of immersion of the idols of the Goddess has begun in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
In Cuttack, three artificial ponds have been made at the Devigada Ghat near the river bank of Kathjodi by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
The Commissionerate Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the immersion ceremony of the Goddess and prepared a route chart through which the 160 idols of the Goddess, after the Sahi Parikrama, would be taken from the puja mandaps to the Devigaga Ghat via Bajrakabati Road, Mangalabag, Ranihaat, Machhua Bazaar, Padhiary Pathagara, Buxi Bazaar and Choudhury Bazaar.
The process for the immersion of the idols in the Millennium city had begun on Friday night.
Till reports last came in, about 12 idols had been immersed at the Devigada Ghat.
To ensure law and order during the immersion ceremony, 57 platoons of police have been deployed in the city.
In Bhubaneswar, four artificial ponds have been made at the river bank of Kuakhai and Daya rivers by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for immersion of the idols of the Goddess.
A total of 175 idols of the Goddess from various puja mandaps would be immersed at these four ponds
The Commissionerate Police have divided the capital city into four zones to ensure the smooth conduct of the immersion.
