Cuttack: The police-lawyers face-off since last two and half months is most likely to be resolved with the three policemen, involved in the assault of a lawyer on August 28, tendering an unconditional apology to the Orissa High Court on Tuesday.
The three policemen, including a havildar and two constables, appeared before the division bench of Justice C R Das during a hearing of the case and tendered an unconditional apology.
To resolve the impasse, Justice Das had given four proposals which were discussed at the general body meeting of the Orissa High Court Bar Association on November 12.
“The dispute has been resolved due to the intervention of the High Court. The High Court Bar Association has welcomed the unconditional apology by three policemen. We hope to join duty from tomorrow,” said a member of the Association.
Taking note of assault of a lawyer inside the Buguda police station in Ganjam district on Tuesday, the bench gave a proposal to prepare a list of advisory and form a seven-member committee, comprising the Home secretary, Director General of Police (DGP), Police Commissioner, two senior lawyers with 35-40 years of experience and two lawyers, to resolve such incidents.
The High Court Bar Association will take up these proposals at its general body meeting in the afternoon and announce its decision to the media later.
