New Delhi: Amid a surge in Omicron cases, the Central government on Thursday wrote to eight states advising them to ramp up preparedness to face an impending third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
These states are Delhi, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Jharkhand. They have been urged to enhance COVID-19 testing, strengthen COVID-related hospital infrastructure and speed up pace of vaccination.
India recorded 13,154 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, which represents a 30% increase compared to the previous day, while the Omicron tally in the country surged to 961.
Delhi and Maharashtra have reported the most number of Omicron cases so far, with 263 and 252, respectively. Gujarat has 97, Rajasthan 69, Kerala 65 and Telangana 62.
