Bhubaneswar: Surgeons at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM
Hospital here performed a complex surgery on a middle-aged man to remove a six-cm cystic mass on the left adrenal gland.
The patient, Sanjib Kumar Singh, from Kharagpur in West Bengal, was admitted into the hospital on Saturday with complaint of abdominal pain. During investigations, Dr Satya Mohapatra, HOD, Radiology department , detected the tumour.
Following the detection of tumour, a team of surgeons, led by Dr. Jitendra Narayan Senapati, (general surgery) successfully conducted the laparascopic adrenalectomy, a complex procedure in which the abdominal cavity is approached through a small incision to extract the mass.
The patient was recovering well and would require shorter hospital stay, said Dr Senapati.
The other team members included Dr JR Pani, Dr Binay Konar, Dr Sunil Kar, Dr. Sonali Mohanty, Dr. Kishan Reddy and Dr. Saurabh Tripathy.
