New Delhi: In a seven-minute meeting with the Marketing and Communication division, IBM’s Chief Communications Officer Jonathan Adashek announced a reduction in workforce as part of the company’s job-cutting measures.
He, however, did not mention the exact number of employees who would be laid off.
The decision comes at a time when several tech companies are laying off employees as AI makes a rapid advancement, reducing workforce needs. Even before the first quarter of 2024 has ended, around 50,000 employees have already been sacked across tech companies.
In December, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna had declared that the company was massively upskilling all of their employees on AI.
“I think it’s a fair criticism that we were slow to monetise and slow to make consumable the learnings from Watson winning Jeopardy,” Krishna told CNBC.
In January 2023, IBM had announced redundancy of 3,900 positions. This would be the second major downsizing of staff in the company.
