Bhubaneswar: In a first, the Odisha government announced a financial package of Rs 7 crore to support 1,085 Durga Puja committees across the state to help them continue with their tradition of worshipping the ‘Mrunmayee Murti’ of the Goddess during Dussehra.
A decision in this regard was earlier taken by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
According to a government statement issued on Saturday, 1,085 Durga Puja Committees, categorised into three groups based on their historical and cultural significance, will be provided Rs 7.14 crore as financial assistance.
Category ‘A’: 215 heritage committees will collectively receive financial assistance of Rs 2,17,15,000. Each committee under this category will be allocated Rs 1.01 lakh for each committee to support their celebrations, ensuring that the cultural significance of the festival is upheld and enjoyed by the community.
Category ‘B’: 197 committees, each with a rich history of 75 years, will be provided financial support totalling Rs 1,47,75,000, with Rs 75,000 being granted to each committee, enabling them to continue their cherished traditions and celebrations.
Category ‘C’: 673 committees that have been active for 50 years will receive financial support amounting to Rs 3,36,50,000. Each of these committees will be granted Rs 50,000 as financial assistance.
