Cuttack: In a novel way of protesting alleged failure of the civic body in Odisha’s millennium city, Congress leader Manas Choudhury gifted a bathroom door to Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Wednesday.
The move came a day after Mayor Subhash Singh observed during the CMC council meeting on Tuesday that the civic body was unable to fix a door in a bathroom due to resource crunch.
When opposition corporators asked Singh about his promise of development works for various wards, the mayor claimed that his bathroom door had broken and it could not be fixed due to fund crunch.
After his statement went viral, members of the district Congress Committee bought a bathroom door and handed it over to CMC Commissioner as a gift to Singh. Manas Choudhury, President of Cuttack District Congress Committee, said Rs 500 has also been given for fitting charges as Singh has expressed inability to afford a door.
If a Mayor cannot fix a door on his bathroom, what work will he do for the CMC and the people of the city, he wondered.
On Tuesday, BJP corporators had created a ruckus at the CMC council meeting by barging into the meeting hall and showing black flags to the Mayor alleging failure of the civic body to undertake development works in the city ahead of Durga Puja.
