Bhubaneswar: Aparajita Sarangi, BJP MP from Bhubaneswar, on Saturday condemned the “murderous” attack on family members of a party corporator candidate in Odisha’s capital on Friday night.
“It was a murderous attack on the victims. It’s unfortunate that they were attacked in front of Laxmisagar police station. The condition of three of them is critical. One of them is in the ICU,” she said, talking to media persons outside Apollo Hospital here, where the injured are admitted.
She said the BJP has demanded the arrest of those involved within 24 hours. “We will stage a demonstration in front of the Commissionerate Police office otherwise,” she added.
Five family members of a BJP corporator candidate for the upcoming ULB elections in Odisha were brutally attacked allegedly by BJD supporters here on Friday night.
BJP corporator candidate Dharitri Jena’s husband, brother-in-law and three others were allegedly attacked with wooden planks and iron rods by nearly 60 people, including her rival BJD candidate’s husband and BJD’s corporator candidate from ward no 32.
The attack took place in front of Laxmisagar police station around 1.30 am.
