Bhawanipatna: The Reserve Police ground at Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi district was on Friday decked up for the wedding of a Maoist couple, who shunned violence years back to join the mainstream of life.
The marriage of Kesab Veladi alias Ramdas and Kalamdei Majhi alias Gita was solemnised as per Hindu tradition at a temple on the premises in presence of police personnel, including SP Dr Saravana Vivek M and Commandant CRPF 64th Battalion Biblab Sarkar. DIG SWR Koraput Rajesh Pandit was the chief guest on the occasion.
Police officials present at the function blessed the newlywed couple with gifts as they began a new journey in their life.
Ramdas, an Area Committee Member (ACM) of Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division of the banned CPI (Maoist) for almost nine years, gave up arms on February 18, 2020, while Kalamdei surrendered with Kalahandi police on January 5, 2016, after being a member of Banshadhara-Ghumsar-Nagabali (BGN) division of the banned outfit for a year.
Ramdas hails from Bijepur district in Chhattisgarh and his parents interacted with Kalamdei’s family when Kalahandi police facilitated a meeting while his father was recovering from cataract surgery. They gave their consent to the wedding and also attended it.
