Puri: Thousands of people gathered at Odisha’s Puri beach to witness the action-packed display of Indian Navy’s maritime capabilities, air power and operational excellence on Wednesday.
The Operational Demonstration as part of Navy Day 2024 off the coast of Puri, showcased the strength and versatility of its naval fleet. The day commemorates the strategic and victorious operations during the India-Pakistan War in 1971.
President Droupadi Murmu graced the occasion as the chief guest. Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, several ministers and other dignitaries were also present at the Blue Flag beach of Puri during the grand show, which was held on Odisha coast for the first time.
A guard of honour was given to President Droupadi Murmu prior to the start of the Operational Demonstration. The President was also presented a memento on behalf of the Indian Navy.
The grand celebrations began with Hawk AJT which is also called the ‘Phantoms’. These are multi-purpose trainer aircraft of the Indian Navy. Hawk aircraft in an arrowhead formation demonstrated their ground attack capability through a ‘Bomb Burst’ manoeuvre.
Marine Commandos or MARCOS, who are highly trained warriors, also displayed their strength, combat skills and assault by firing and throwing flares. The commandos also displayed a real-life hostage rescue operation.
Chetak helicopters and indigenously developed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) performed during the show. Women cadets performed the Horn Pipe Dance to enthrall the people. Advanced Jet Trainers (AJTs) and a few MIG-29K fighter aircraft of the Indian Navy tore the sky while showcasing their combat capabilities.
Several warships and submarines of the Indian Navy also demonstrated their war skills at the event.
