Puri: Heavy rains in the last two days battered coastal districts of Odisha. The downpour in Puri led to a deluge in the pilgrim town  where 352 mm rainfall was recorded till 5 pm on Monday.

Water flowing at about one foot on the roads forced people indoors for the last two days.

The highest rainfall of 530 mm was recorded in Astarang block of the district followed by Kakatpur block which registered 525 mm rainfall.

Several houses in low lying areas remain marooned and hectares of farm lands are under water leading to fears of heavy losses. The Lord  in Loknath temple remains submerged for the last two days and in the absence of a drainage or dewatering facility, the temple is still inundated.
