Independent MP Pappu Yadav Sparks Fresh Row With ‘Politicians Watch Porn’ Remark

Malda: Independent MP Pappu Yadav has triggered another controversy after claiming that “70 to 80 percent of politicians watch porn,” while responding to criticism over his earlier remarks on women politicians.

The latest comment came after the Bihar State Women’s Commission issued him a notice over remarks linked to the Women’s Reservation Bill debate. According to reports, Yadav had earlier said that most women in India cannot enter politics without going to a “male leader’s room,” a statement that drew sharp backlash from political parties and women’s groups.

Defending himself, the Purnia MP reportedly said politicians should be examined because a large percentage of them consume pornographic content. His remarks have further intensified criticism already surrounding his earlier statements.

“..I have

said this on the Floor of the House too that 70-80% of the politicians watch porn. So, get everyone checked. If there is porn on my phone, check me too…Who are these people who have served me a notice? Who are they with? There are several photos with former ministers. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones…I had said that male politicians do not let women enter politics without exploiting them. Is that incorrect?…I am fighting women’s fight…They exploit women…There is sexual exploitation against 755 male politicians and there are chargesheets against 155…The whole of India is tainted. If I speak of male politicians, why are they (Women’s Commission) troubled?…These politicians exploit women and then they speak of Women’s Reservation Bill,” he told ANI.

Leaders across party lines condemned the comments, calling them derogatory and offensive to women in public life. Critics said such statements undermine women’s participation in politics and reflect a regressive mindset.

Yadav, a veteran Bihar politician known for outspoken and controversial remarks, has often found himself at the centre of political storms over his public statements. The latest episode has once again put him under scrutiny.
