New Delhi: India’s fifth consecutive win at the World Cup 2023 against New Zealand makes it the first time that it has overcome the Kiwi challenge.
It is India’s first win against New Zealand in ICC tournaments since 2003. The 2019 semi-final heartbreak too has been avenged. Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs off Matt Henry as India wrapped up the chase with two overs remaning. Virat Kohli once again rose to the occasion, hitting a superb 95-run knock. Skipper Rohit Sharma too hit a solid 46 at the top. Jadeja finished on an unbeaten 39.
Although Kohli could not complete the chase, his mature knock helped India to reach a victory target of 274 to maintain an unbeaten run in the tournament.
Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket (5 for 54) haul helped India restrict New Zealand to 273 despite Daryl Mitchell’s 130 and Rachin Ravindra’s 75.
