New Delhi: India has administered 20,662,073 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Saturday evening.
The 1st phase of vaccination targeted healthcare and frontline workers while the current phase is focused on senior citizens and those above 45 with co-morbidities.
Around 35 lakh healthcare and 2 lakh frontline workers have received the second dose of the vaccine, according to the Union Health Ministry.
India reached the one crore mark on February 19. The highest number of people vaccinated in a day was on March 5 when nearly 15 lakh people received the shot.
In terms of total number of vaccinations, India is at 5th place, with US leading the chart with 8.7 crore jabs.
The UK has vaccinated around 3.3 crore people, which comprises more than 33 per cent of its population.
Isreal leads this chart with 95.4 shots per 100 people followed by the UAE at nearly 60. The UK and US are around 30. India’s number is just 1.5 per 100 people which has raised concerns among experts who believe the number needs to speed up to at least six to ten times if the country wants to reach its target of vaccinating 30 crore people by August.
