New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has come down hard on another Canada-based gangster.
The 33-year-old Lakhbir Singh Landa has been designated as a terrorist under the stringent anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Landa was involved in multiple terrorist activities including a rocket attack on Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali in 2021.
India also believes that Landa was involved in supply of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), arms, sophisticated weapons and explosives from across the border to various organisations engaged in terrorist activities on Punjab soil.
Landa, who was born in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district in 1989, fled to Canada in 2017.
Identified as a member of the notorious Khalistani group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) by India, Landa is believed to have close ties with Harvinder Singh, also known as Rinda, a gangster based in Pakistan who has collaborated with the BKI.
He also had close ties with several Canada-based Khalistani terrorists, including Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice and the late Hardeep Singh Nijjar of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), among others.
India’s action comes two assailants on September 21 attacked a trader, who had received a call from someone who claimed to be Landa Harike and demanded Rs 15 lakh.
A few people were arrested following the raids.
