Washington: The United States on Wednesday denied reports that India had intimated it before scrapping the Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The United States Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs put out a Tweet on Wednesday evening, refuting media reports that the Indian side was in touch with the Trump administration months before scrapping the Article.
A news report published in the Print had claimed that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had apprised his US counterpart Mike Pompeo of India’s move to scrap the Article in Bangkok on August 1.
The news website had also claimed that National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had shared India’s plans with his US counterpart John Bolton as early as in February after the Pulwama terror attack.
