India Expresses ‘Serious Concern’ To Saudi Arabia Over Incorrect Map On Banknote

New Delhi: India has expressed “serious concern” to Saudi Arabia for issuing a banknote with an “incorrect depiction of India’s external territorial boundaries”, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.

The note had apparently excluded  Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh from India.

“The note was issued by Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority on October 24 to mark Saudi Arabia assuming the presidency of G-20,” the Finance Ministry said at a briefing, NDTV reported.

“We have conveyed our serious concern to Saudi Arabia, both through their Ambassador in New Delhi as well as in Riyadh, for this gross misrepresentation of India’s external territorial boundaries on an official and legal banknote of Saudi Arabia and asked the Saudi side for taking urgent corrective steps in this regard,” the ministry spokesperson said.

“I would like to further reiterate that entire Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India,” the ministry added.

On Wednesday, PoK activist Amjad Ayub Mirza had tweeted: “Saudi Arab removes Pakistani occupied Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from Pakistan’s map!!!!”
