New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted in a recent interview that Indian society has no feeling of discrimination towards any religious minority.
Asked by UK-based Financial Times about the future of Muslim minorities in the country, Modi pointed out the economic success of Parsis in India.
Describing the Parsis as a “religious micro-minority residing in India,” Modi said: “Despite facing persecution elsewhere in the world, they have found a safe haven in India, living happily and prospering. That shows that society itself has no feeling of discrimination towards any religious minority.”
In his first response to the USA’s claim of an Indian national allegedly having a role in a plot to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Modi said the government will look into any evidence.
He was confident that relations between India and the US won’t be derailed by “few incidents.”
Asked about the charges of suppressing dissent, the Indian PM responded with a laugh.
“There is a whole ecosystem that is using the freedom available in our country to hurl these allegations at us every day, through editorials, TV channels, social media, videos, tweets, etc. They have the right to do so. But others have an equal right to respond with facts,” Modi defended himself.
