Netherlands: India’s fight against the raging Aussie did not end on a happy note as the team went down 1-3 to the defending champions in the penalty shootout of the submit clash, at Rabobank Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy in Breda on Sunday.
Till the end of quarter three, India and Australia were leveled at 1-1.
India, however, had something to cheer about as skipper Sreejesh won adjudged the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
Manpreet Singh scored in the penalty shootout for India, while Aran Zalewski, Jeremy Edwards and Daniel Beale did it for the defending champions.
The goals scored before quarter 3 were by Blake Govers in the 24th minute while Vivek Prasad equalized for India in the 42nd minute.
While the match was edgy and intriguing, Australia came out with flying colours clinching their 15th Champions Trophy title, in the 37th and final edition of the tournament.
Hosts Netherlands claimed the bronze medal defeating Olympic champions Argentina 2-0 in the third-fourth place play-off match earlier in the day.
