New Delhi: India could join the 26 countries to approve Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in the next few weeks, RIA news agency cited India’s ambassador to Moscow as saying on Monday.
The trials of the vaccine have been started in small batches by India’s Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. The lab had earlier stated that Sputnik V meets the primary safety requirements for phase-2 clinical trials in India.
The mid-stage trial data have been submitted to the drug regulator.
The Lancet medical journal stated that the Russian vaccine is more effective than the Chinese ones, and it has 91.6 per cent success rate.
The Sputnik V can be stored in a fridge unlike Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines.
In September 2020, Dr. Reddy’s and Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) entered into a partnership to conduct its clinical trials.
