Bhubaneswar: The Indian team lost to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals of Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 on Thursday. They got knocked out of the World Cup after 1-2 defeat against World number four Dutch team.

The teams played exceedingly well and India hit the goal first as Akashdeep Singh’s reverse flick in the penalty corner in 12th minute worked wonders. However, Thierry Brinkman soon scored the equalizer in the 15th minute.

Mink van der Weerden’s goal in the final quarter brought them the victory as India could not equalize. The team had put in continuous effort to hit the goal but the yellow card to Lalit Upadhyay in the last few minutes did no good.

Netherlands will now face defending and World Champion Australia in the semifinals.

India’s Surendra Kumar was awarded ‘Man of the Match’. Hockey India tweeted to congratulate him and meanwhile has asked fans to pick out their favourite players from the given list.
