India Overtakes US In Number Of First Dose Of COVID Vaccine: Govt

New Delhi: India has overtaken the US in the number of people who have been given the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the government said on Friday.

“The vaccination data put out by Our World in Data shows that India has administered the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to 17.2 crore people. In the US, this figure is 16.9 crore. As of Thursday, we have overtaken the US in terms of the number of people who have received at least one dose,” NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr VK Paul was quoted as saying by India Today.

Meanwhile, the UK has given 3.9 crore of first doses and Germany 3.8 crore, Dr Paul informed, adding that this dataset does not include China.

“To me this is reassuring and the vaccination process will be intensified,” he said.
