New Delhi: An overnight addition of 55,078 positive cases took India’s COVID-19 tally to 16,38,870 while 779 patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
The death of 779 more patients took the country’s death figure to 35,747, the Union Health Ministry informed. Now, India has the fifth highest COVID-19 toll in the world overtaking Italy’s 35,132.
Of the total deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 266 were from Maharashtra, 97 from Tamil Nadu, 83 from Karnataka, 68 from Andhra Pradesh and 57 from Uttar Pradesh.
Similarly, West Bengal registered 46 deaths, Delhi 29, Gujarat 22, Jammu and Kashmir 17, Madhya Pradesh 14 and Rajasthan and Telangana 13 each.
However, cumulative recovered cases of 10,57,805 have surpassed active cases by 5,45,318.
Also, India’s recovery rate remains at 64.55 per cent. The fatality rate of cases has dipped a bit to 2.18 per cent and is falling progressively, according to a PIB release.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,88,32,970 COVID-19 samples have been tested so far, including 6,42,588 on Thursday.
