India Reports Second Case Of Monkeypox; Check Details

New Delhi: A 31-year-old man from Kerala became the second person in the country to test positive for monkeypox on Monday.

The man, who is from Kannur, arrived at the Mangalore airport from Dubai on July 13.

He was admitted to hospital after showing symptoms. His samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune and the results came positive for monkeypox.

The man is being treated at the Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur and is stable, reports said.

India’s first case of monkeypox was reported from Kerala on July 14.

The traveller from the UAE arrived at the Thiruvananthapuram airport on July 12.

Monkeypox virus mutates at a quick rate, but is treatable. The infection usually starts with fever, headache and flu, but some patients develop red lesions on the body and itchiness like chicken pox.
