New Delhi: India continues to remain well entrenched at third spot among the countries with the largest number of billionaires, Forbes has revealed. The US is in first place with 902 billionaires, while China comes second with 450.
Savitri Jindal, according to Bloomberg, is also the only Indian woman in the list of the world’s 100 richest people. She also ranks 48th among the world’s billionaires, according to Forbes.
According to Forbes, the number of billionaires in India has gone up to 205 from 200 in 2024. Their combined worth is US$ 941 billion, a slight drop from 2024’s US$ 954 billion. This has been attributed to a drop in the fortunes of both Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.
Ambani and Adani lost more than US$ 20 billion after their share prices dropped. Ambani, with a net worth of US$ 92.5 billion, is the richest Indian, while Elon Musk – with an estimated net worth of US$ 342 billion – has been declared the world’s richest person.
Given the fact that Zhang Yiming – co-founder of TikTok’s parent company ByteDance – is the richest Chinese with an estimated net worth of US$ 65.5 billion, Ambani is clearly the richest Asian.
Meanwhile, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Savitri Jindal – matriarch of the O P Jindal Group – is the only woman from India in the list of the 100 richest people in the world. There are 12 women in this list.
Savitri (74), took over the O P Jindal Group in 2005 after her husband Om Prakash Jindal died in a helicopter crash. She has an estimated net worth of US$ 37.5 billion. The O P Jindal Group is engaged in steel production, mining, power generation and ports.
The richest woman in India, Savitri, is also a legislator from Hisar, Haryana. She also looks after her late husband’s welfare initiatives that include healthcare, education and the environment.
