India Shifts Embassy To Poland As Russia Intensifies Attack In Western Ukraine

New Delhi: The Indian Embassy in Ukraine has been temporarily shifted to Poland amid a “deteriorating security situation” in the eastern European country in wake of the Russian invasion, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Sunday.

In a statement, the Ministry said: “In view of the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Ukraine, including attacks in the western parts of the country, it has been decided that the Indian Embassy in Ukraine will be temporarily relocated in Poland”

“The situation will be reassessed in the light of further developments,” it added.

Earlier in the day Military authorities in Lviv said that nine persons were killed in a deadly airstrike launched by Moscow, targeting Yavoriv International Peacekeeping and Security Centre (IPSC) at Yavoriv in the Lviv region, just about 25 km from the border with Poland.

The Russian ground forces are also reportedly about 25km (16 miles) from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

Russia has also threatened to target supplies of Western weapons in Ukraine while the US had assured to rush up to $200m in additional small arms, anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons to the embattled country.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a CCS meeting to review India’s security preparedness and the prevailing global scenario in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

He was briefed on the latest developments in Ukraine, including the details of Operation Ganga to evacuate Indian citizens from Ukraine, a  statement issued by the Centre said.

Modi has directed that all possible efforts should be made to bring back the mortal remains of Naveen Shekharappa, who died in Kharkiv.
