India Test Fires Nuclear Capable Agni-II Missile Off Odisha Coast

Bhadrak: India on Saturday test-fired the medium-range nuclear-capable Agni-II missile 2000 km from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast in Bhadrak district.

The user trial of the medium-range surface-to-surface missile was successfully carried out from a mobile launcher at launch pad—4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at around 8.38 am, defence sources said.

The 20-metre long missile with a launch weight of 17 tonnes can carry a payload of 1,000 kg over a distance of 2,000 km.

Developed by the Advanced Systems Laboratory along with other DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) laboratories and integrated by Bharat Dynamics Limited, Hyderabad, Agni-II is part of the Agni series of missiles, which includes Agni-I with a 700 km range, Agni-III with a 3,000 km range and Agni-IV and Agni-V both having long-range capabilities.
