New Delhi: India has decided to resume visa services partially for some Canadian citizens who apply for Entry Visa, Business Visa, Medical Visa and Conference Visa categories.
“After a considered review of the security situation that takes into account some recent Canadian measures in this regard, it has been decided to resume visa services,” the Indian High Commission in Canada said in a notification on Wednesday.
India had suspended visa services to Canadians just over a month ago amid a diplomatic row between the two countries over Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegation that there was ‘credible’ intel pointing to Indian agents’ hand in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.
India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said a few days ago he would very much like to resume the issuing of visas if Indian diplomats are provided safety in Canada as per the Vienna Convention.
