In reply to Windies 315/5, the hosts scored the winning run in 48.4 overs with Ravindra Jadeja flicking the ball towards mid-wicket for a quick single. India skipper Virat Kohli was the highest scorer for the team with 85 (81). He was also the Man of the Match.
The other highlight of the match, Rohit Sharma breaking Sanath Jayasuriya’s 22-year-old record for most runs in a calendar year by an opener across formats. He went past the Sri Lankan’s 2,387 runs record in a year in 1997 on his ninth run in India’s innings during this third ODI. Rohit was named the Man of the Series.
Virat also became the 7th highest run-getter in ODIs and surpassing South African legend Jacques Kallis’ 11,579 runs 328 matches with an average of 44.36.. Virat has scored 11,524 runs with an average of 69.70 and just 56 runs short from achieving this milestone.
