Indian Army Neutralizes Two Infiltrators Along LoC Ahead of J&K Elections

Jammu: In an encounter along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army gunned down two infiltrators in the Lam region of Nowshera of Jammu and Kashmir on the intervening night of September 8 and 9.

This comes barely ten days before the 3-phase Assembly elections get underway from September 18.

White Knight Corps (16 Corps) of the Indian Army carried out the operation, named Operation Kanchi,  based on the intelligence provided by intelligence agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

In a post on X, White Knight Corps (16 Corps) of the Indian Army claimed that besides neutralising the terrorists, they also recovered two AK-47 rifles and one pistol so far while search operations are still continuing.

In two similar operations on August 9, three terrorists were neutralized in Machhal and Tangdhar in the Kupwara region along the LoC.

Indian security forces are on maximum alert given the upcoming Assembly elections, which start on September 18 and end on October 1, with the counting of votes and result declaration scheduled for October 8, 2024.

On September 7, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed an election rally at Jammu and on September 8, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to a similar public gathering in the Ramban constituency, about 120 km from Jammu and 130 km from Srinagar. Both the BJP leaders stressed that they would never allow Article 370 to be restored.
