Bhubaneswar: A day after curtains came down on FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, Indian men’s hockey team chief coach Graham Reid on Monday submitted his resignation to Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey.
India, which was touted as a medal contender after the Olympics bronze, finished joint 9th with Argentina at the Hockey World Cup 2023, after losing to New Zealand in the Crossover match.
After the 8-0 win over Japan in a classification match in Rourkela on Thursday, Reid had said, “I have signed through till Paris (Olympics in 2024). I have signed a contract. But we will review at the end of this (World Cup).”
His resignation has come with just more than a year to go before Paris 2024 Olympics.
Along with Reid, analytical coach Greg Clark and scientific advisor Mitchell David Pemberton also put in their papers. They will now be serving their notice period over the next month.
Reid assumed charge as the chief coach of the Indian men’s team in April 2019. His initial tenure was till August 2020 but the contract period was extended after the Tokyo Olympics were postponed for a year. Among his successful outings were Tokyo 2020 Bronze, CWG 2022 Silver and FIH ProLeague Bronze medals.
