Indian Nurse Nimisha Priya’s Daughter, Husband Appeal For Her Release [Watch]

Nimisha Priya's daughter & husband appeal

New Delhi: Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, convicted in 2020 for the murder of a Yemeni man who had been her business partner, was scheduled to be executed on July 16.

However, sustained diplomatic efforts by Indian and Yemeni authorities, and activist groups resulted in her execution being deferred.

And now, the teenaged daughter and husband of Nimisha — who is currently lodged in Sana’a Central Prison in the Yemenese capital city — has appealed to authorities to release the nurse from Kollengode, in Kerala’s Palakkad district.

In a video posted on social media platforms by PTI, Nimisha’s 13-year-old Mishel and husband Tomy Thomas can be seen sitting beside Indian Christian evangelist Kilari Anand Paul, as they appeal to the Houthi administration to release the woman who is on death row in Yemen.

“I love you, mamma,” Mishel can be heard saying as she speaks in Malayalam and English, though all her words are not completely audible.

Nimisha’s husband Thomas thanks the Houthi administration for halting her execution, and requests her release.

Paul, the main speaker in the video, and the one who is clearly audible, is an evangelist from Andhra Pradesh who is the founder of a US-based organisation called Global Peace Initiative.

He starts off by inviting Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of the rebel group that administers capital Sana’a and large parts of Yemen, to a global peace summit in New York in September.

“Love is more powerful than hatred,” Paul says and offers to mediate for lasting peace in Yemen, a country ravaged by civil war for several years.

With the Houthi administration not formally recognised by most countries, including the US and India, mediation in Nimisha’s case has been complicated.
