Bengaluru: Indian-origin British academician and writer Nitsaha Kaul was allegedly deported from the country hours after she landed at Bengaluru airport.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, the Indian origin Professor said he was invited by Karnataka government to speak at a convention but when she reached Bengaluru airport, immigration officials refused her entry. Kaul wrote they informally made references to her criticism of RSS.

“Denied entry to India for speaking on democratic & constitutional values. I was invited to a conference as esteemed delegate by Government of Karnataka (Congress-ruled state) but Centre refused me entry. All my documents were valid & current (UK passport & OCI),” she wrote on X.

Kau added that Karnataka had arranged her travel and logistics, she had the official letter with her, and she had not received any notice or info in advance from Delhi that she would not be allowed to enter India.

“I spent 12 hours on a flight from London to Bangalore, several hours at immigration where they shuttled me here & there, provided no info on process, then 24 hours in a holding cell (no BA flight back until next day) under direct cctv restricted movement, a narrow area to lie down,” she wrote.

The writer is a Kashmiri Pandit based in London.

Reacting to the incident, BJP Karnataka wrote on X that Congress had disgraced the Indian Constitution by inviting a Pakistani sympathizer.

“At the expense of Karnataka tax payers’, Congress govt is channeling funds to Terrorist-Sympathisers, Urban Naxals, Anti-Nationals, Riots-accused to destabilise India ahead of elections,” wrote BJP Karnataka on X.
