Bhubaneswar: Indian Railways will now have a single helpline number for all types of queries and services after it merged all existing helpline numbers with Rail Madad number 139.
The passengers can dial the new number for security, general complaints, catering, vigilance etc. This number will also be used for making all inquiries and lodging grievances during travel. Zonal railways have been directed not to create any new number other than 139, according to a press release.
Earlier helpline numbers dedicated to specific needs like 138 for general complaints and clean my coach, 1072 for accidents & safety, 182 for security have been integrated with the new number which will be available in different languages and based on IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System). All the mobile users can access to call 139.
By dialing 139, one will get menu options to choose from the IVRS and that will be connected immediately to call center executives.
The rail users can call or send SMS for all basic enquiries of train running and reservation related enquiries like PNR status, ticket (general & tatkal) availability, train arrival & departure, diverted & cancelled schedules, seat availability, ticket cancellation, fare, destination alert, wakeup call, on-board services and security issues.
