Hyderabad: An Indian student from Telangana, Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi, has been reportedly missing in Chicago since May 2.
The Chicago Police and Consulate General of India (CGI) in Chicago are trying to locate the 26-year-old who is a post graduate student of Concordia University, Wiscons.
Rupesh went missing from the 4300 block of N Sheridan Road, the Chicago police informed in a statement urging people to inform the police if they locate Rupesh.
The missing student’s father Sadanandam, a resident of Hanamkonda district, last spoke to him on May 2 via WhatsApp and could not speak much as he was doing some work, Times of India reported.
Rupesh roommates informed his family that he was to meet someone from Texas on the day but they do not know who they were.
The family informed the police and US Embassy and also wrote to Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Development of the North Eastern Region following which on May 8, the Minister wrote to the Ministry of External Affairs, seeking help from the Consulate General of India (CGI) in Chicago’s aid in tracing Rupesh.
The Consulate General of India in Chicago posted on X, “The Consulate is deeply concerned learning that Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been incommunicado since 2nd May. The consulate is in touch with the police and the Indian diaspora hoping to locate/reestablish contact with Rupesh. @IndianEmbassyUS @MEAIndia.”
Reports of Indian students missing from the US have increased in recent times. Last month, Mohammad Abdul Arfath from Nacharam Hyderabad, who was pursuing a master’s degree in IT from Cleveland University, was found dead. He was the eleventh case of an attack on an Indian student in the US this year.
