Dubai: Several Indian workers lost their lives in a road accident on Dubai’s Emirates Road on Monday after a minibus carrying workers rammed into a truck that had stopped in the middle of the road. The collision killed seven people and injured nine others, according to Dubai Police.
The Indian Consulate in Dubai expressed profound grief in a post on X: “Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Dubai that claimed the lives of several Indian workers.”
The
consulate mission further announced it is coordinating closely with local authorities to deliver comprehensive assistance, adding: “Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the grieving families during this difficult time.”
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, explained that preliminary findings showed a truck suddenly stopped in the middle of Emirates Road because of a technical malfunction. He stated: “The bus driver, who allegedly failed to pay attention and keep a safe distance, then rammed into the truck from behind.”
Brigadier Juma Salem added: “The accident resulted in seven fatalities and nine injuries, including five serious and four moderate injuries. All injured were transported to the hospital for treatment.”
Mission officials from India visited the hospital to meet with the injured Indian nationals.
Brigadier Juma Salem confirmed that specialists from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section were sent to the crash site to examine it and collect accurate evidence to determine the precise causes of the collision.
