New Delhi: India registered the highest single-day spike of 26,506 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s caseload close to the 8-lakh mark at 7,93,802 on Friday.
In the same period, 475 patients succumbed to the infection across the country, taking the death toll to 21,604, the Union Health Ministry said.
According to the Indian Council Of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,10,24,491 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the country so far, including 2,83,659 on Thursday.
On a positive note, recovery cases (4,95,513) have surpassed the active cases by 2,18,828 with the national recovery rate improving to 62.42 per cent.
With over 2.3 lakh cases, Maharashtra has reported the highest number of infections followed by Tamil Nadu (1.2 lakh), and Delhi (1.07 lakh).
