New Delhi: India has been ranked fifth among best global cuisines for 2022.
The ranking, based on audience votes for ingredients, dishes and beverages, saw India receiving 4.54 points, according to Taste Atlas.
The top-rated foods of India include “garam masala, malai, ghee, butter garlic naan, keema.”
A total of 460 Indian items have been mentioned in the list.
The list also identified the best restaurants to try Indian cuisine. Among the 450 restaurants are Shree Thaker Bhojanalay (Mumbai), Karavalli (Bengaluru), Bukhara (New Delhi), Dum Pukht (New Delhi) and Comorin (Gurugram).
Italy topped the list, followed by Greece, Spain and Japan.
Mexico, Turkey, the USA, France and Peru complete the top 10 countries with best cuisines.
Chinese cuisine, among the world’s most popular, was ranked 11th.
The Taste Atlas tweet has garnered millions of eyeballs on Internet with over 40 million views and thousands of comments.
Many netizens felt that the list wasn’t accurate.
“This is a list you’d come up with if you’d never eaten food,” wrote one user.
“Hi, I think there’s been an error. England is on this list for some reason,” wrote another person.
“Absolute nonsense,” responded another user.
“I’ve travelled to 40/50 of these countries and I can tell you this is the most inaccurate list @TasteAtlas. You left off so many foodie countries like Morocco, Ethiopia, Myanmar, and many more. Including Lithuania and not Latvia or Estonia is just funny,” wrote a well-travelled user.
“Lebanon, Pakistan, Thailand, Jamaica should be in the top 10. How is England on the list? German food? What, kartoffelpuffer & bratkartoffeln?? How are people liking Bangladesh over Pakistan?! Too much stress in one tweet,” remarked another person.
