Brussels: Ace Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra missed the Diamond League trophy by just a centimetre. He finished second at this tournament for the second year in a row.
His best throw of 87.86 meters came in his third attempt. However, it fell short of 87.87 meters of Grenada’s Anderson Peters, which he achieved in his opening throw. Earlier this year, Chopra won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
Peters will take home a Diamond League trophy and USD 30,000 for first-place, while Chopra will win USD 12,000 for finishing second in the DL trophy. While Neeraj Chopra’s performance has been constant, he has won only one international event this year – Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland on June 18.
He qualified for the Diamond League final by securing fourth place overall with 14 points, earned from two second-place finishes in Doha and Lausanne.
According to reports, Chopra has been plagued by a groin injury, restricting him from reaching his full potential this season. He is set to consult a doctor to address the issue that has hindered his 90-meter goal.
