Mumbai: The 14th anniversary special issue will see Vogue India celebrating female achievers in sports. And who better than the trio of Olympic medallists Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu and Lovlina Borgohain for the fashion magazine to rope in?
Wrestling silver-medallist Mirabai, bronze-winning shuttler Sindhu and bronze winner in boxing Lovlina, having made India proud at the Tokyo Olympics, put their best feet forward as fashionistas.
All three looked the part in the photo shoot in images shared by Vogue India on social media.
“Winning and losing is part of life… At the end of the day, it depends on the individual. I choose to answer with the racquet,” Sindhu, who who won her second Olympic medal following a silver in the 2016 Rio Games, told the magazine.
Mirabai, who became the first Indian weightlifter to bag an Olympic silver medal, posed in vests, shorts and a jacket. “Weightlifting is not dangerous for girls, it is completely safe. Look at me. If I can do it, all of you can,” the 27-year-old from Manipur said.
Lovlina, from Assam, followed in Mary Kom’s footsteps to claim an Olympic bronze in women’s boxing. Sporting different shades of blue, she wore striking bodysuits.
“I didn’t speak to the coach or discuss any strategy this time. Every coach has their own way of looking at things, and after every loss, they would suggest different ways to beat her (Chen Nien-Chin). It didn’t work, though. I kept losing to her. This time, I just wanted to play as I saw it. I came up with my own strategy — and it worked. There was no fear this time. I told myself that I’ve played with fear all my life, but today, I will just play freely,” Lovlina said of her win over Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-Chin in the quarterfinals of Tokyo Olympics, , which assured her a medal. The Indian had lost all her four previous bouts against Chen.
