New Delhi: Maharashtra continued to have the most number of Omicron cases on Sunday with 460 patients, even as the all-India tally of the variant rose to 1,525. Omicron was first reported in India in November.
Twenty-three states in India have so far reported the fast-spreading Omicron variant so far. Maharashtra is followed by Delhi with 351 infections, though Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said there was no reason to panic at present.
“Only 246 hospital beds were occupied yesterday and all the cases are mild and asymptomatic,” Kejriwal said, adding data shows that the impact of the rise in cases is far less than what it was during the second wave.
As far as the total count of COVID-19 cases goes, the country reported a 21 per cent jump from Saturday by reporting 27,553 infections on Sunday. India saw 22,775 new infections being reported on Saturday.
The active cases comprised 0.30 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.32 per cent, the health ministry said.
